ILAC has an informal relationship with the European Commission (EC).
“The European Commission recognises the important role that accreditation plays in creating a level of trust that is indispensable for an open market and fair trade. The adoption of the new European Regulation on accreditation constitutes a major breakthrough because it provides a legal basis for the provision of accreditation. It will provide a level of consistency and gives accreditation bodies the means to be and act as the last level control in the whole quality chain that should ensure that products marketed in Europe are safe, and health and safety requirements of European citizens are met in general.
“The Regulation is a win-win achievement for everyone, the European Commission, interested parties, economic operators, conformity assessment community, public authorities, regulators and enforcement parties.
